Course Description

Offered in partnership with Crisis-Ready Workplace (CRW), the Crisis-Ready Interventionist Training program provides practical, evidence-informed approaches to recognizing workplace concerns early, responding during high-stress situations and connecting colleagues with appropriate support.

Through instruction, discussion and scenario-based practice, you will build skills in early intervention, psychological safety, trauma-informed response, Duty to Inquire and verbal de-escalation.

Course Outline

The program consists of 12 modules delivered across two full days, organized into four learning blocks.

Block One – Foundation:

  • Crisis readiness as a core element of psychological safety
  • A six-step crisis response model
  • Staying calm and effective under pressure
  • Trauma-informed response principles
  • Early defusing practices after difficult events

Block Two – Responder:

  • Preventing interpersonal escalation
  • Recognizing early distress and impairment
  • Applying Duty to Inquire
  • A five-step early intervention conversation model

Block Three – Prevention:

  • Understanding the anger cycle
  • Safely managing anger and heightened emotion
  • Supporting an employee who may be suicidal
  • Avoiding common escalation traps

Block Four – Crisis-ready micro-interventions:

  • Scenario-based practice
  • Domestic and intimate partner violence concerns
  • Armed assailant response principles
  • Verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Burnout, moral injury, and leader coaching

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize early signs of distress, impairment and risk
  • Use supportive early-intervention approaches
  • Apply trauma-informed and verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Take steps to stabilize situations and reduce escalation
  • Connect employees with appropriate supports
  • Contribute to a more crisis-ready workplace

Notes

Upon successful completion, you will receive a letter of completion from UNB Centre for Learning Futures. Crisis-Ready Workplace will issue the Crisis-Ready Interventionist certification and professional credential.

Lunch / refreshments will be available along with a printed copy of the student workbook.
