Course Description

This course will lay the basic foundation for the Management of the Critically Ill Patient and their families.  The learner will as a prerequisite have completed the Pre-course Study Guide and reviewed the following online modules:

  1. Introduction: Critical Care Nursing
  2. Stress & Coping
  3. Crisis
  4. Cultural, Ethical & Legal Issues
  5. Sleep & Pain
  6. End of Life Issues
  7. General Assessment
  8. General Cardiovascular Assessment
  9. General Neurological Assessment
  10. General Respiratory Assessment
  11. General Gastrointestinal Assessment
  12. General Renal Assessment
  13. General Pediatric Assessment
  14. General Geriatric Assessment
  15. Physical Assessment of Bariatric Patient
  16. Cardiac Anatomy & Physiology
  17. 12 & 15 Lead ECG Interpretation

 

 

Learner Outcomes

The students will:

  1. Gain an understanding of the concepts of Critical Care both in the ER and ICU setting.
  2. Be able to identify and utilize proper assessment techniques when assessing a variety of critically ill patients.
  3. Be able to identify both theoretical and practical framework for data collection that advanced skills may be added throughout the development of his/her practice in critical care.
  4. Become knowledgeable relative to the cardiac cycle, the central nervous system’s effect on the heart, and the properties and function of cardiac cells.
  5. Gain a working knowledge of basic cardiac rhythms and associated nursing responsibilities.

Notes

Equipment:

  • The learner will require access to a computer and internet connection capable of accessing the online modules and Instructor led online discussions (Zoom).
  • This will also require a headset with a microphone.
