Course Description

Course 2 will provide a foundation that will enable the learner to care for a client and family with cardiovascular alterations. The online course content (modules) provides a comprehensive overview of acute cardiovascular nursing; the topics of chronic disease management are beyond the scope of this program.

All course 2 online modules are to be reviewed by the student over the term of the course.

All assignments will be passed in on time or a 10% per day reduction in mark will occur.

The minimum passing grade in this course is 70% on EVERY exam or assignment.

Participants must successfully:

  • Complete all required assignments and projects by stated deadlines (Pass mark is 70%)
  • Attend all days including clinical days

Learner Outcomes

  1. Integrate theory from online content, tutorials, and clinical practice into the safe and competent care of clients and families with cardiovascular alterations
  2. Incorporate knowledge learned into the development of appropriate care maps, within your facility, for the client and family with cardiovascular alterations

Course Outcomes based on assignments and clinical evaluations:

The learner will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the ability to care for a client experiencing an acute coronary syndrome, from time of access to healthcare until critical care is no longer required. This demonstration is done through the nursing process of assess, plan, implement, and evaluate.
  2. Define the core concepts of hemodynamic monitoring, identify the normal parameter measurements, and describe how to manipulate the determinants of cardiac output to return or maintain homeostasis.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to interpret a 12 lead ECG from a novice perspective.
  4. Identify the lethal arrhythmias and integrate international guidelines into the proper treatment within the defined treatment timeline

 

Course Goals:

Notes

Equipment:

  • The learner will require access to a computer and internet connection instructor led online discussions (same as course 1). This will also require a headset with a microphone.
  • Quality stethoscope for heart sound assessment during clinical days.
  • For each Zoom session please print the power point presentation prior to the session, they are located on D2L.
