Course Description

The Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) is an internationally recognized professional development program designed to enhance the teaching effectiveness of both new and experienced educators. Through experiential, learning-centred activities, participants explore foundational principles of adult learning, lesson design, and reflective practice in a small-group, collegial environment.

Over the course of the workshop, participants design and deliver three short mini-lessons to peers, receiving structured written and verbal feedback focused on the learning experience rather than content expertise.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  * Design lesson plans with clear, measurable learning outcomes
  * Apply active learning strategies to engage diverse learners
  * Facilitate inclusive, participatory learning experiences
  * Give and receive constructive, learning-focused feedback
  * Reflect critically on their own teaching practice and set goals for ongoing development

The ISW is suitable for faculty, instructors, graduate students in teaching roles, librarians, and educational developers across all disciplines.
