OHS 5059 - Legislative Compliance and Corporate Responsibility (Formerly COHS 3130)
Course Description
The work of health and safety practitioners is guided partly by jurisdictional legislative frameworks. This course will guide you through the key elements of Canadian Federal, Provincial and Territorial legislation, regulations and policy related to workplace safety. Students will compare OHS laws in several jurisdictions in Canada, and in other parts of the world.

Learner Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand basic legal terminology and the characteristics of Canadian OHS law.
- Gain knowledge of the Canadian legal and judicial systems, as well as the historical and operational aspects of Workers Compensation Boards.
- Acquire insight into prosecutions, Subsidiary Legislation, and various codes related to workplace safety.
- Utilize environmental regulations and ethical frameworks for OHS decision-making, including familiarity with the BCRSP Code of Ethics.
