Course Description
Have you recently been promoted to a new position as a manager or supervisor?
Transitioning into a position of authority means many unique challenges, including new responsibilities and skills. This seminar is designed to help you comprehend the challenges and exciting opportunities of making a transition to a leadership role.
What you learn in this class will equip you with a powerful new set of skills, strategies, and techniques for dealing with the issues you may encounter as you take on your new position and move forward in your career.

Newly promoted, and soon to be promoted, supervisors.
Learner Outcomes
- Understand the importance of effective leadership in your new supervisory role
- Give and receive feedback constructively and effectively
- Discover what motivates your employees and yourself
- Distinguish between coaching and counselling employees, and help employees develop skills in both areas
- Provide strategies to deal with difficult employees
- Apply active listening skills (e.g. open-ended probes and reflective statements)
- Identify mistakes supervisors commonly make in performance management
- Explore appropriate development strategies for different levels of employee performance
