Course Description

This course builds on the materials presented in the health and safety basics course. Students will better appreciate the legal, moral, and financial motivations for maintaining a health and safety program that delivers health and safety excellence. The course covers the need to understand effectiveness and efficiency as it relates to management principles and the management of health and safety programs.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify common hazards in modern workplaces and differentiate various safeguarding systems.
  • Describe equipment in assembly and operations, including robotics, woodworking, metalworking machinery, and automated processes.
  • Outline hoisting apparatuses, cranes, their safety rules, and the components of fire triangles and tetrahedrons.
  • Differentiate types of fires, their suppression methods, and fire chemistry.
  • Understand electrical safety definitions, types of electrical injuries, and tasks posing electrical hazards.
  • Describe confined space characteristics, hazard assessments, and different types of fall protection.
  • Identify workplace violence types and concerns related to them.
