HEA 5004 - Management of the Critically Ill Client and their Family – Neurological Alterations
Course Description
Course 5 will provide a foundation that will enable the learner to care for a client and family with neurological alterations. The learner will as a prerequisite have successfully completed courses 1, 2, and 3.

- Neuro Assessment
- Head Trauma
- Treatment of Severe Head Injuries
- Spinal Cord Injuries
- Cerebrovascular Diseases
- Epilepsy/Seizure Disorders
- Neurological Alterations
- Organ and Tissue Donation
- Migraines
Learner Outcomes
The learner will be able to Integrate theory from online content and clinical practice into the care of clients and families with neurological alterations. Course outcomes are directly related to the competencies developed by the Canadian Nurses Association.
Clinical Objectives/Goals
Promote the safe and appropriate care of clients with neurological alterations through observation and participation in the provision of nursing care. Specific objectives are outlined in the clinical checklist document. Objectives for Onsite Tutorial/Clinical Post Conferences are located in D2L.

Course Equipment:
The learner will require access to a computer and internet connection capable of accessing the online modules and capable of utilizing a “Zoom” program for instructor led online discussions.

To successfully complete Course 5 students must complete and achieve 70% on each assignment.
